T.E.C. is Teens Encounter Christ, but that word "Teens" can be misleading. We are all God's children and at a TEC weekend the young and not so young gather together. It is not just for teenagers. It is together that we share Christ actually living among us.
When we first arrive we are all strangers so we take some time to get acquainted. We take a group picture so we can remember who our new friends are.
We get into groups at tables where we'll work on different projects based on talks that young adults and not so young adults share with the group. Those talks are really something to hear! You may find out that other people have the same problems and obstacles in their lives just as you and I do. You can't help but admire them for their honesty and their openness. The tables will then share among themselves whatever reactions they may have to the talks. You are never forced to say anything unless you want to.
We pray, but not so much that it's boring. You may get to see some new ways to pray that you never thought could be prayer. Prayer that is alive!
The Masses at the TEC are the most remarkable you have ever been to, because you're with people you've come to know really well. The music is simply awesome.
Listen to what these people have to say about the TEC weekend they attended:
... I really didn't want to go on TEC. I had too many other
things going on, but I did go and by the end of the weekend I didn't
want it to end. I am so glad that I went that words cannot
express my joy. I really dig Jesus' style!
...I had the most amazing time at TEC. I cried a lot (as) I'm
a really emotional person I feel truly that the Holy Spirit did
touch me. I am so glad I have friends now that love me.
I really haven't had any friend throughout my life and I am so glad
I got to meet everyone.
(a
fellow TEC-ite) came to my workplace today, and we sat there and
talked for like 30 minutes about how incredible TEC was, and I just
thought it was so cool that we could share a bond like that.
TEC has changed my life.
TEC opened my eyes to see just a "speck" of how close God really is
in my life. For the first time I could see Him working in the
people next to me. I could see and hear His presence like I
never had before. I suddenly realized just how much He wanted
a personal and close relationship with me!
Does it seem possible that we could meet as complete strangers in
one moment and just mere hours later become so close and find
parting such a difficult task?
As
the weekend got closer I became more than hesitant. When
Saturday morning came I was thinking of one thing... Monday
afternoon. I did my best to put a good face on, but I was
apprehensive, of the weekend, of the open "religiousness", and of
all the people there. But, as they say, "a funny thing
happened on the way" to Monday afternoon. I found out that it
wasn't so big and scary after all. In fact, everyone was
pretty cool. And strangely I was accepted as part of the
group. Together we talked and prayed and experienced our faith
and Jesus in a way that I have not experienced. It was pretty
moving.
I was not really looking forward to the weekend. My grandmother was visiting, plus I had forgotten about it until just a few days before. I figured I would go, experience another typical retreat, and then go home on Monday. I never in a million years anticipated what participating in TEC would do to me. It was on of the best experiences of my life. I feel like a totally new person.
